Red for Ed Action Day
In support of Public Education and those from our district planning to attend the event in Indianapolis, the Pike County School Corporation cancelled school today. This was not an easy decision as we realize our families had to make alternate arrangements for their children today. However, it is important for our legislators to understand how current legislation is hurting our schools. Inadequate funding has led to increased class size and limited resources for our students. Emphasis on high-stakes testing and skewed accountability models are having a negative impact on students in the classroom, but are also discouraging future educators from pursuing teaching positions in Indiana.
Over 15,000 people – teachers, administrators, parents and community members - are expected to be in Indianapolis today to support public education. Over ½ of the school districts in Indiana closed today with most planning a make-up day in February as we are.
